Basnyat, alleged mastermind of Gauchan’s murder, arrested from Chitwan

Kathmandu, Dec 3 (RSS): The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested Samirman Singh Basnyat, the alleged mastermind of the killing of Sharad Kumar Gauchan, President of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal.

Acting on a special tip-off, a CIB squad arrested him Saturday from Narayangadh of Chitwan. He was presented before media during a press meet here Sunday. Basyant is also the accused one in the murder of Rupandehi Youth Association chair Durga Tiwari and firing at one Dawa Lama.

At the press meet, Bureau Chief and Deputy Inspector General of Police , Pushkar Karki said the findings of the preliminary investigation into the case shows that Kumar Shrestha (Ghainte) and Samirman Singh both had share in the Danfe Construction operated by Gauchan. Gauchan and Basnyat had disputes over the share in the name of Ghainte following the latter’s death in police action in 2015. Gauchan had reportedly taken Rs 25 million from Ghainte, and Basnyat had the claim that of the amount, Ghainte had borrowed Rs 10 million from him to invest in the construction company owned by Gauchan.

Likewise, Basynat had demanded two percent commission in the contract of Birgunj-Biratnagar postal highway, but Gauchan ignored it. Gauchan was shot dead in broad day light in Kathmandu on October 9.
Police have so far arrested Basanta Thebe, Rajib Syangtang, Prakash Budathoki, Shibaji Mahato, Mukesh Kumar Pandey and Santosh Gurung on the charge of their involvement in the murder of Gauchan. Other accused in the case-Manoj Pun, Lopsang Lama, Ganga Prasad Lingden, Shyam Gombe Gurung, Amar Bahadur Rana Magar, Roshan Budathoki and Ajay Thapa are on the run.
