‘Nepal willing to work together with neighbours’

Kathmandu, Feb 1 – CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal was willing to work together with her neighbours for peace and prosperity.

In a meeting with visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here this evening, Chairman Oli said he was ready to collaborate with India for mutual interest in areas of utilization of natural resources, connectivity, bilateral trade and information technology, among others. He also expressed the commitment to work closely with India, UML Secretary Pradip Gyawali said.

Expressing gratitude to India for its continued support in the democratization of Nepal, leader Oli said the new government shall remain active for peace and prosperity.

On the occasion, Indian Minister Swaraj congratulated Nepalis for successfully holding the recent elections and to the left alliance for the success in the elections, Secretary Gyawali said. Expressing the view that a clear mandate from the elections would maintain peace and stability in Nepal, Ms Swaraj said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed the confidence that Nepal would move ahead towards the path to development and prosperity following the elections.

The meeting began with a one-on-one dialogue for around 45 minutes between Chairman Oli and Foreign Minister Swaraj followed by delegation level talks between the two sides. Ms Swaraj arrived Kathmandu today afternoon on a two-day visit. She also met with Rastriya Janata Party leaders today.

The Indian Minister for External Affairs is scheduled to meet with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (MC) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal before she returns home tomorrow.
