Investigation finds police’s role to silence Durbarmarg rape case

Kathmandu, Feb 8 – A 5-member probe team has found the fault of police persons during the investigation of a gang rape occurred in a hotel of Durbar Marg.

A report prepared by the probe committee coordinated by Superintendent of Police, Ram Datt Joshi, revealed the fact that the police officials from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, were found to have hushed the crime by showing financial lure to the victim side.

Chief of the Circle, Deputy Superintendent of Police Tilak Bharati was removed from the post, and Police Inspector Laxman Singh Thakuri and Sub Inspector of Police Chandra Bahadur Bhandari were suspended, and also recommended for stringent action.

A press release issued by Kathmandu Metropolitan Sector of Nepal Police mentioned that if these police persons were found guilty of criminal offense, process to sue them would be initiated.

The persons accused of gang rape in the FIR- Shailesh Karki, Bikash Gautam, Dipak Shrestha and Rabin Poudel- have been absconding since the crime.
