UK Ambassador for Nepal Morris calls on CM Pokhrel

Butwal, March 16 – A delegation led by UK’s Ambassador to Nepal, Richard Morris, today called on Province 5 chief minister Shankar Pokhrel.
During the meeting held at the CM’s office in Butwal, the UK Ambassador said the UK government was interested in working together with the province governments in Nepal formed as per a new federal setup, said the chief minister after the meeting.
In response, the chief minister expressed his gratitude towards the goodwill expressed by the ambassador, stating that areas of priorities of the province government would be finalized soon and thereafter, the Embassy would be requested for help in implementation.
According to chief minister Pokhrel, the team took the names of mainly development, agriculture and environment protection sectors as possible areas for collaboration.
The British team was also apprised by the chief minister of the constitutional provision for seeking permission from the federal government for garnering foreign assistance for implementation of projects in province governments.
Issues of foreign investment in the province could be discussed after the formation of provincial planning commission, the CM told the team.
DFID Nepal chief Dr Rurik Marsden, embassy’s representatives and DFID other representatives were in the team.
