Surkhet, July 2 – The health condition of senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC is described as worrying. Dr KC is on a hunger strike in Jumla since Saturday.
Dr KC is experiencing increased pain in his limbs, head and chest, said Dr Pujan Rokaya, the medical director at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Jumla. “Dr KC has passed out only 200 millilitres urine in 24 hours and his condition is vulnerable,” Dr Rokaya added.
He said the medical team has already drawn the attention of the district authorities to the need of taking initiatives for protecting the health and life of Dr KC. It is stated that Dr KC has started his hunger strike at a dingy place full of pigeon droppings with no light.
Dr Rokaya said they should not be held responsible now if any untoward happens with Dr KC as his health condition is vulnerable.
Chief District Officer of Jumla, Bishnu Poudel said the district administration was very sensitive regarding Dr KC’s health. “Dr KC’s demands aside, we have been tough against anyone trying to create disturbance in the law and order through riot by inciting the situation in the name of Dr KC’s demands. But we respect his demands.” he said.
However, DR KC’s supporters have been pressing the government to fulfill Dr KC’s demands and protect his human rights.Dr KC is on hunger strike protesting against the new medical bill which the parliament has passed recently.
