She has been objectified,
criticised and vilified.
she is sometimes tortured and abused
she is nothing and often used
she is often regarded as a possession, a trinket,
someone who needs a lesson!
She is often silent in the face of aggression
And can suffer abuse and depression.
She is someone’s wife, someone’s lover
But primarily she is a mother
She brings life into the world, nurtures the child
And prevents them from becoming wild
She has to learn how to cope
Because she must never lose hope.
So, I invite you today To join me and say
Let’s press for progress
And help redress
Once and for all
With the universal call
For Equality – and say happy women’s day!
