Pokhara, March 1 – The last rites of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, were performed with state honour at Ramghat in Pokhara on Friday. Minister Adhikari was killed in a chopper crash in Taplejung on Wednesday. His dead body was taken to Pokhara for the last tributes and rites on Friday itself.
Adhikari’s dead body was taken to Tundikhel, Kathmandu, for the general public to pay tribute before taking it to Pokhara.
Thousand of people including President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Ministers, lawmakers and others thronged Tundikhel to pay the last tribute.
The security personnel offered a guard of honour to the late Minister while his body was being lifted onto the pyre for the funeral at Raghat.
Wife Bidya Bhattarai and sons duo Biraj and Swaraj consigned to flame the late Adhikari.
Leaders of various political parties and civil society leaders also offered condolences, noting that Adhikari’s demise was an irreparable loss to the country and he was promising and visionary leader.
NCP leader and cadres, well-wishers and local residents gathered at his home town to expressed grief over Adhikari’s demise.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwar Pokharel, Minister for Labour and Employment, Gokarna Bista, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha attended the funeral cortege.
A Cabinet meeting on Wednesday had also announced a public holiday for Thursday in honour of the late Minister Adhikari.
